Find out more about coaching on this page. Feel free to watch the videos shared below of ICF certified coaches to get a sense of what coaching can look like.
Do bear in mind that every coach brings their own experience and character to the conversation, but what I have in common with the examples below is the commitment to the ICF's Code of Ethics and Core Competencies.
Professional Coaching...
is a series of conversations between a coach and a client
is an equal relationship based on mutual respect and trust
is a forward-looking process that supports clients to think of the next steps they can take now for better outcomes in the future.
Professional Coaching...
feels 'normal' - friendly, relaxed, safe, familiar - and with a level of challenge
is semi-structured, shaped and directed by the client's thoughts, ideas and responses
is solely informed by the client's agenda
Professional Coaching...
is driven by the overall goals and aims you wish to achieve over a period of time.
is supportive and encouraging at all times
has a clear end-game!
COACHING IS NOT...
the coach being in charge of the client, or vice versa
the coach providing answers, advice or solutions
focused primarily on the past and does not seek to remedy historic traumas or difficulties
a formal, uncomfortable interview
another 'chat with a friend'
one-size-fits-all or scripted
a free-for-all conversation with no aim or direction
controlled by the coach to serve their agenda
seeking to judge you or assess your progress
